March 2012- Spring Break has come and gone. And now I need a break just to recover from it. I had the grand idea to plan something every day of the week so the boys didn't get bored. Well, that was fine until about day 3 when we all started getting tired from running the roads.
Day 1- Sea World. Yes, me and half a million other people decided to go to Sea World on the first day of Spring Break and coincidentally one of the warmest days we've had in a while. I know, this is not the Shamu photo you were expecting, but we were crammed into the stadium like sardines. Plus, I didn't want to have to fish Brazos out of the Shamu tank so I opted not to turn my back to dig the camera out of my backpack.
Day 2- The boys spent the day with Oma so I could go to Austin and get 2 fillings done at the dentist that I've been putting off for at least a year. Maybe that is why I felt so crummy for the rest of the week! Our original plan was to pick strawberries in the morning then the boys would go to Oma's for the afternoon. But wouldn't you know the strawberry picking place had to close on Tuesday because of the abundance of Spring Break pickers. Instead, they went to the Pioneer Museum for some old fashioned fun.
Making a rope...perhaps to tie up his little brother.
And some Indians. Which of these is not like the others? Surprisingly, Brazos wouldn't get any where near them.
Day 3- Art fun! I took the boys to a paint your own pottery place in San Antonio. Pecos LOVED it. He said it was his favorite thing we did on Spring Break. Brazos liked it for the first few minutes. Then he kind of didn't want to be there anymore. But we got our Easter eggs painted anyway.
After that Brazos was due for a nap and Pecos and Casey took off for mini-golf. Mini-golf with his dad moved to the top of the list as his favorite thing we did on Spring Break.
One of the many things Pecos wanted to do on Spring Break was to stay in a hotel. Which turned out to be one of the best parts of the week...so we could wake up in San Antonio and ready for....
Day 4- Brackenridge Park and Witte Museum in San Antonio. We got there early enough to ride the train before the crowds set in.
Waiting for the train.
Dino to greet us at the Witte Museum...upon seeing it Brazos let out a mighty roar. Pecos needed confirmation that it wasn't real.
These two cowboys will ride just about anything.
Okay, here it is, the one and only full scale dinosaur skeleton at the Witte museum. I was expecting a bit more of an exhibit. I was underwhelmed. But Pecos thought it was great. And when he sees the Smithsonian exhibit in June he'll have a great perspective of how amazing it really is.
Aside from a plethora of dusty taxidermy models, there wasn't much else to see inside the Witte, so we ventured out to the HEB Treehouse exhibit that was a bit more hands on and interactive. Pecos liked the science exhibits and experiments.
Brazos was amazed with this particular air flow experiment. He just couldn't get enough of this floating beach ball.
Then came the water exhibit. Brazos loved turning the wheel to send water up through this corkscrew.
And Pecos was happy raising and lowering the flood gate, so it was a perfect pairing.
Then they found the drum exhibit. Who knew you could make so much noise banging on random salvaged junk?
Day 5- Austin Children's Museum. They had fun in the golf ball room and we may or may not have left with a golf ball or two tucked away in a pocket or the stroller.
Round and round and round they go; where they stop is wherever Brazos grabs them off the track!
This kid will stick his head- and body- into just about any hole he can find. There is no good explanation for this.
Jailbirds!
Then Brazos found the digger toys. He was in heaven. I thought we may never leave. He stayed busy here for at least half an hour. He never does anything for half an hour! If only I could get one of these put in my office so I could catch up on those way past due blog posts and other work that I stay up late doing every night.
Pecos enjoyed building a model car to send down a ramp.
That car was supposed to travel up and around this loop in the track. But it hit a road block. Someone found another hole to crawl through.
Look! A tunnel slide. Kind of like crawling through another hole, just a bit bigger this time.
No trip to Austin would be complete without lunch at the original Chuy's and a stop for Amy's ice cream.
Whew! I'm exhausted all over again. In the word of Pecos "That was a whole bunch of fun!"
