April 28, 2012- We were in Fredericksburg on Saturday for Pecos' Fun Run in the Wildflower Run race, and after it was over we had a bit of time to kill before lunch. And since we live half an hour away we do as much as we can in a visit to the burg. There was a program at Lady Bird park about bats and butterflies with crafts and activities for the kids.
The boys each decorated a foam bat.
Pecos made a bird feeder that didn't hold up too well once we got it home but he had fun making it so that's all that matters.
They hung out in the bat cave.
Then we went to the butterfly exhibit and this is where things got interesting.
The very nice, but fairly impatient volunteers really wanted to share all their knowledge of caterpillars and life cycles and butterflies. Pecos just wanted to go into the tent to hold a butterfly. Brazos just wanted to go back to the bat cave.
After 10 minutes of butterfly teaching we finally got into the tent that had lots of really pretty butterflies.
They also had these magnifying glasses. Brazos grabbed one and kind of mashed a butterfly with it. Which I tried to just ignore. But the volunteer saw us. So she took the magnifying glass away. And kicked Brazos out of the tent.
But before we left I managed to get these pics of Pecos holding a butterfly.
Last up was a giant canvas mural of a butterfly for the kids to color. But I think they intended for everyone to color inside the lines. One of my boys did not.
