April 2012- After our bike tour we headed out of Portland in the direction of Mt. Hood. We didn't have time to make it all the way to Mt. Hood but we'd heard about a few great waterfalls and hiking areas along the way.
Our first stop was Bridal Veil where we found this quaint little post office.
Then we parked and hiked the trail to reach the actual Bridal Veil waterfall. This is just some of the water in the creek area along the trail. It was a steep but short hike (down) on the way to reach the falls.
Our first glimpse of the bottom of the falls.
The top portion of Bridal Veil Falls.
The full view of Bridal Veil Falls.
The full view of Bridal Veil Falls- with a cat on a leash blocking the view!
This is Taco. And apparently he loves to hike and visit the falls.
But wait, he doesn't really hike. He sits in this basket while his humans tote him around. I'm not kidding. I can't make up this kind of stuff. Seeing a cat named Taco on a harness-leash lounging in front of a water fall. I can check that one off my bucket list.
On our hike back up the trail I spotted this old barn. I would love to have the tin off of it. Not sure what I'd use it for but if a park ranger had been nearby I might have inquired about it.
After the hike we hopped in the car for a short drive to the next water fall- Multnomah Falls.
It was getting cooler; we were getting hungry and needed a break from hiking. So we did what all good Portlandians do- we snacked on the meat and cheese we'd picked up at Elephant's Deli and watched episodes of Portlandia on You Tube. I'm not sure any of us knew about Portlandia until a few people on our bike tour made multiple references to it.
This is the amazing Multnomah Falls. Beautiful. And we might have hiked the trail to get closer to it had we not exerted ourselves on the bike tour and gorged ourselves on our picnic. Plus it was getting cooler and we had dinner reservations to get to. The viewing area below the falls was good enough for us.
Despite our need to get back to Portland for dinner we felt a stronger need to cross the border into Washington state.
See Portlandia- part 4 for the final installment of my Girls Trip re-cap.
