What J-you-ne been up to lately?

June 2009- If swimming lessons, church parades and birthday parties weren't enough, we've had plenty other activities to keep us busy during the long, HOT days this June. Let's start with the animals....I was gathering things inside to load in the car the other day while Pecos had already made his way to the porch to "wait" for me. He stuck his head in the door to tell me that he needed help getting his rope off the cat. This is what I found. Not to worry, this cat gets a daily dose of love from Pecos and comes back for more.In mid-June Miss Chickie hatched two baby chicks. She'd been sitting on a nest of about 10 eggs for a few weeks and we were so excited that she ended up with a couple chicks to add to the growing flock. And here's a recent pic of the proud papa, Denis the Wonder Rooster (refresh your memory here- http://theworrellfamily.blogspot.com/2009/02/free-range-rooster-ranch.html).
Pecos has been spending some time lately with his best cowboy buddy, Jace. These two just can't get enough of playing Cowboys & Indians and riding their stick horses. Pecos has grown so fond of Jace's sitck horse, Ginger, that he sometimes can't even leave her outside when they take a break to watch a little John Wayne.
Mimi and Paw Paw visited us over Father's Day weekend. They even hauled live crawfish and gulf crabs for us to boil and enjoy. They were some of the best we've had in a long time, especially since they were here and we didn't have to drive 9 hours to enjoy them!
And our most recent adventure was visiting Sea World in the 100+ degree heat. There are enough places to splash and keep cool so it was not too bad. We'll be making a few more trips before the season is over. The battery on the camera went out so not too many pics of it but we'll get more on our next trip.

100 years and counting

June 13, 2009- St. Anthony Catholic Church celebrated their 100th anniversary over the weekend with a grand centennial celebration. The highlight for Pecos was the parade. Oma and Opa loaned us their 1923 T-bucket and a mini version for Pecos to ride in. Of course, everyone expected Pecos' parade entry to be a horse or a tractor. So if him in a race car wasn't funny enough, his driver (Casey) crammed into the car with him made it hilarious. I think they were by far the most photographed entry in the parade. And we won a third place ribbon for our entry....considering we don't have ties to any of the founding families of the church we were pretty proud of ourselves. Pecos spent his time on the parade route alternating between waving, throwing candy and checking to make sure his ribbon was still tied onto the car. Casey spent the entire parade route trying to lay a scratch. Now we begin work on his parade entry for the Fredericksburg Fourth of July children's parade....stay tuned!

best buddy jace turns three

June 13, 2009- Pecos' best buddy Jace celebrated his 3rd birthday over the weekend. These two little cowboys had so much fun playing on Jace's new swing set, shooting animals, and especially racing horses. Pecos calls them 'horse on a stick'. I think they each ran at least a mile with all the horse racing they did. Now Pecos keeps asking when his birthday will be and tells me every day that he wants a swing set like Jace. If you'd like to contribute to the cause send me a check!!!

little swimmer

June 11, 2009- Pecos is taking swimming lessons for two weeks. I know what you must be thinking- "what kind of lessons does a 2 1/2 year old really need?" But they are great because one of us goes in the water with him and it is actually a 'get used to the water' lesson.Pecos says he can swim like a perch. For the most part Pecos likes to do his own thing- until his teacher comes around- then he is Mr. Showoff. He turns into a kicking and bubble blowing master. And in addition to swimming he is learning to spell. The first lesson I was sitting on the edge of the pool and Casey said I should move back because Pecos only wanted to come over to where I was. My reply was, "He doesn't want me, he wants this T-O-Y." Well, that was all it took for Pecos. Now when he gets in the water he yells "I want that T-O-Y!" Everyone thinks he is a genius but he is really just a copycat!

ropin' practice

June 6, 2009- It is never too early to start practice for the NFR. By the looks of it Pecos has outgrown his pony and needs to upgrade to a bigger horse.

horse bath

June 4, 2009- Our horses needed a bath...well, not really, but Pecos thinks it is fun to spray them with water and watch when they roll around in the dirt and dust. So they were up by the house today while I was watering my plants and Pecos took over with horse washing duty.
I grabbed my camera and waited for something funny to happen....Pecos had to investigate how the hose pipe works (that's water hose for those non-Cajuns that need a translation). He thought it was so funny he did it over and over again. Of course he got wetter than the horses!

berry sweet

June 2, 2009- We made a return trip to the same place we pick strawberries- Marburger Orchard- to try our hand at picking blackberries, which Pecos tends to call blueberries. So we put on clothes that could stand a few blackberry stains and headed over to pick. It only took one ant bite and 3 stickers for Pecos to call it quits on the picking. So Oma and I were left to do the picking while Pecos gorged himself on the berries. He was eating them almost as fast as we were picking. I banished him from my box but Oma let him sneak a few more....so I ended up with 5 pounds and Oma only ended up with about 4. I'm sure Pecos didn't eat an entire pound out of Oma's box but she was sidetracked from picking by all of Pecos' antics in the orchard. We had a great time and the weather was nice. We've been eating berries now for 3 days and have had enough....I'll freeze what's left and make cobbler with them. Or maybe I'll freeze them and let my mom make cobbler with them next time she visits!!
This one looks good.
Are you watching?
Look, I picked one!

splashtown

May 30, 2009- Welcome to splashtown- Pecos' own private water park. Okay, it is just a plastic pool from Wal-Mart but to him it is as good as Schlitterbahn so we'll go with it. The water is so cold when we fill it you might as well jump into a pitcher of ice water. But Pecos doesn't seem to mind.
